Introduction ----------- Bit mapped images such as those created with MacPaint and FullPaint allow for an incredible amount of detail and are fairly easy for the artist and layman alike to work with. Unfortunately, when you print them out to a printer with a greater resolution than the Mac’s screen, the images don’t improve in quality, they simply get the “jaggies.” About Clarity ------------ Clairty is a program which allows you to “Clarify” bit mapped pictures. When pictures are clarified, they are scaled to the resolution of the printer you specify (either the ImageWriter or LaserWriter) and thus improve in quality dramatically when printed. The pictures become smaller on screen, and may look a little weird too, but when they are printed, the results are spectacular. Images that you clarify will retain their resolution in any desktop publishing program, word processor, database, or object-oriented drawing program like MacDraw. They will simply become an ugly blob of pixels if you paste them back into MacPaint or FullPaint though. Using Clarity ------------ Clarity is meant to be used under MultiFinder or Switcher, so that you can copy a picture from within another program, switch immediately to Clarity and clarify it. Give Clarify 64k of memory when running under MultiFinder or Switcher. Clarity can also be used productivly by copying all the pictures you wish to clarify into the Scrapbook and then clarifying them one by one and pasting them back into the Scrapbook. Clarity is a stand-alone program because it can be run with little memory under MultiFinder, and because it is more convenient to clarify many pictures at once. Once you have a picture on the Clipboard which you wish to clarify, choose Clarify... from the FILE menu. A dialog box will appear showing you a portion of the picture on the Clipboard and two radio buttons. Click on the radio button which corresponds to the printer you will be printing the picture out on, and click on the OK button. Clarity will remember the printer you chose and will default to it from then on. The picture will then be clarified and put back on the clipboard. Then simply paste it into your document or the scrapbook, and you’re all set. When you print the picture out it will be printed in the full resolution of your printer. Miscellaneous ------------- Included in Clarity’s File menu is the command “Transfer”. This menu choice allows you to run another program immediately, rather than quitting to the Finder. After you choose this command, a dialog box will appear listing the applications on your disks. Simply click on an application’s name and then click on the Transfer button and you will be transfered to that application. WARNING: Do NOT use this command when you are running under MultiFinder—weird things will happen! Registration ------------ Clarity is being distributed on the ShareWare system. This entitles you to review Clarity before paying for it; try it out and see if you feel it is a worthy addition to your software library. If you choose to keep Clarity, you are on your honor to send in the $8 registration fee and become a registered user. Otherwise you must destroy all of your copies of Clarity (or better yet, give them to your friends). You are at a real advantage in that you can use Clarity before you decide if you want to purchase it—please don’t take advantage of that privilege. Considerable time was spent developing and perfecting Clarity and sending in your registration fee will insure the development of many more high–quality, inexpensive programs. To make it easy for you, we have prepared a registration form for you to fill out and send in to us along with your registration fee. To print this form out, simply choose Print Reg. Form from the FILE menu, then fill it out and send it in! Thanks. Thanks ------- Thank you to everyone who supports the Utopian concept of ShareWare. You do make a difference. My special thanks go to all the users of M-BBS, for giving bug reports and suggestions which made Clarity what it is. Thanks guys.
